2 Weeks Old

Margaret is 2 weeks old today and had her 2 week checkup today. She was 7 pounds, 15 ounces, 20 inches long, and her head is 14.25 inches around. So that puts her at the 50th, 50th, and 95th percentiles for those measurements. So she is tracking along with Max with her giant head. But I have to say her head looks a lot smaller than his head did. We'll see how that goes.

The doctor said she was "perfect" and I would tend to agree. :) No issues with her health. She is obviously eating well, with over a pound of weight gain by 2 weeks. Apparently the goal is to be back at birth weight by the 2 week checkup and she met that target by her 4 day checkup. Her great gain is mirror by my great loss (25 of the 31 pounds I gained have magically disappeared) and so that is good news all around.

We go back when she is a month old for her next checkup. So more news after Valentine's Day!

Raisin?

This morning Max continued to want to share with Margaret. He has offered her a bagel, a cracker, and now a raisin. He was eating his raisins and she was right next to him. So he tried to put one in her mouth, but she wasn't going for it. And then he just put it in her hand. And then when she didn't eat it he decided to just take it back from her and eat it himself!

Heart Update

Yesterday we took Margaret to the cardiologist. It was a very long appointment with lots of different "activities" during the visit. In the end they said her heart is just fine and we have nothing to worry about.

She has an unusual amount of pressure going towards the right side, but since that usually occurs with a specific structural defect that she does not have, they are not worried about it.

She also has a very small (3mm) hole in her heart between the two atria. Atrial Septum Defect or something similar is the name for it. The expectation is that as she grows the hole will close up and there will be no problem. Just to be on the safe side, in case she is one of the 5% that doesn't have it close up, they will check her again in the summer of 2011! If they don't want to see her again for 18 months, then there is no reason for us to worry!

The doctor was really nice and it seems like they did a really detailed job of checking her out.

So her next check up will be next Wednesday when we go in for her regular 2 week checkup with the doctor.

Max and Margaret

Max, Mommy, and Margaret

Max really loves Margaret's feet!

Margaret and Max

This was the first time Max met Margaret. He had just woken up from his nap and initally wasn't interested in meeting her. But within a couple of minutes he was willing to come over and meet her. He has been very good with her. He's gentle when he touches her and is willing to share Mommy's lap with her. He also tries to help change her diaper (and throws away the dirty diaper) and has tried to give her his cracker and his bagel. His attempt to share his game with her was slightly less successful since he bonked her in the head with it, but everyone recovered quickly. :)

Born!
